Children from different regions of Azerbaijan have participated in this exhibition, including some who have been internally displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh and others who continue to reside in cities affected by the recent war.
The Nagorno-Karabakh region and surrounding 7 districts of Azerbaijan are considered to be one of the most heavily mined regions of the former Soviet Union. The region was heavily mined in the mid-1990s. The year 2020 brought renewed armed conflict to the region, causing more damage and landmine contamination. The drawings reflect this unfortunate reality.
